To disciple, equip and enable children living in poor areas of Manado to develop into fulfilled and responsible adults. Compassion’s Church -based child development program provides Christian teaching, learning opportunities, health treatment and training, socio-emotional development and material supplies. Project: Sumompo Rubbish Dump Resource Centre: Stage 2 (Sept ’09)
Aim: The Sumompo Rubbish dump and nearby vicinity is home to around 1,000 people.  The overall aim of this project is to improve the standard of living for families living on Manado's Rubbish dump, many of whom, including children, earn their living by scavenging for recycable items, 8-10 hours a day, six days a week.

Funds raised from Stage II of this project will extend the existing library, resource centre and educational facility on the dump so that it can accommodate an additional teacher and health worker.  The teacher will be involved in educating the ever growing number of children. The health worker will be involved in providing basic sanitary and health education as well as operating a free medical clinic. 

Bridge Hope will also be providing micro-loans to assist in the small businesses being operated by the Sumompo residents as well as providing training in business skills.  Further details.

Project: Sumompo Rubbish Dump Resource Centre: Stage 1 (Dec ’07)

The aim of Stage One of this project was to establish a library and resource centre providing basic education for children who have had no education.  In July '09 seven children graduated through the program and started school in September '09.  Proceeds from the project have supported the salary of a Bridge of Hope worker, Meldie, to work full time at Sumompo.  Bridge of Hope has also conduced a free medical clinic for the residents of Sumompo.  Further details.
