Churches in Manly can get involved in this community partnership through one of 4 ways. You can...

Provide support to local churches

The Compassion Child Development Program offers your church the opportunity to have a partnership with a church or group of churches in Manado through active participation in their Child Sponsorship and Child Survival Programs.

Many members of churches in Manly sponsor children in some nine different Manado churches. A greater sense of partnership can result from focusing your sponsorships to only a few churches and/or by visiting them, meeting the children and the Pastor(s).

Please contact Compassion if you would like more information about this.

Alternatively your missions committee may like to support Bridge of Hope, our micro-enterprise development partner. Have a look at some of the development projects we are working in partnership with them on to support people in Manado.

Participate in community

Manly-Manado is designed to be used as a catalyst for building relationships with others in the local community - an incarnational mission opportunity.

You could encourage the initiation of a congregation-wide event or activity to raise awareness of poverty and funds for the people of Manado and donate the money direct to Compassion or Bridge of Hope. Childrens ministry and youth ministry could also consider initiating their own part educational events, using Manly-Manado as a catalyst to teach on global inequalities.

Advocate and Educate

Each of us can help change the lives of those living in poverty by advocating on their behalf to our friends, our family, our community and our government.

Your business can join one of the many advocacy movements, stay engaged with the issues and take your action against poverty to a global level. Examples includes Make Poverty History, The Micah Challenge or Compassion's Child Advocate Network.

Why not challenge the Australian Federal Government to meet the Millennium Development Goals of halving extreme poverty by 2015?

The Manly-Manado Community Partnership offers an exceptional opportunity to educate members of a local church on the bible’s teaching about poverty, serving the poor and advocating on their behalf. Consider using the specially designed Manly-Manado Small Group Bible Studies (7 weeks) in your home or cell groups.
